The Road goes ever on and on Out from the door where it began. Now far ahead the Road has gone, Let others follow it who can! Let them a journey new begin, But I at last with weary feet Will turn towards the lighted inn, My evening-rest and sleep to meet.

Character Bio:

Frodo was born in 2968 the only son of Drogo Baggins and Primula Brandybuck. His parents both died in the year 2980, so he was adopted by his cousin Bilbo Baggins, the wealthy bachelor. Bilbo brings Frodo to live with him at his large house Bag End not out of charity but because he out of his many relatives is the only one to show spirit. Frodo grows up into a sensitive, serious and intelligent hobbit still fascinated by his uncle's library and stories of his exotic travels across Middle Earth. Because of his isolated upbringing other hobbits feel that Frodo has had his mind turned by Bilbo's wild stories and his odd passion for travel (hobbits are by nature sedentary creatures). And it's true, like his uncle Frodo has developed a taste for travel and exploration. But Frodo has no idea of the long journey that he will soon take. When Frodo reaches the age of manhood Bilbo decides to go live with the Elves and leaves all his belongings including Bag End and an unusual gold ring to Frodo. Soon Frodo discovers the dark power and immense danger that this ring holds to him and all of Middle Earth. And his long journey to destroy the 'One Ring', begins....

Actor Bio:

Elijah Jordan Wood was born on January 28, 1981 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Warren and Debbie Wood. One of three children, old brother Zack and a younger sister Hannah. Elijah's acting career started at a young age, appearing in films such as Paradise (1991), Radio Flyer (1992), and Forever Young (1992) with Mel Gibson. After The Good Son (1993) with Macaulay Culkin Elijah appeared in North (1994). In 1996, Elijah starred in a movie remake of the old TV show Flipper (1996), and immediately regained his old strength. He appeared in countless movies after that such as, Deep Impact (1998) and The Faculty (1998). In 1999 Elijah was in three movies that never made it into wide release: the Bumblebee Flies Anyway, (1999) , Black and White (1999) , and Chain of Fools (2000), . Elijah next has gone on to work on what has been called the biggest project ever to hit the movies, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, based on the books by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Actor Commentary:

“It was such a joy to be able to take a character from one extreme to the other. His journey is quite internal because it really deals with The Ring and the influence that The Ring has over him and the burden that that creates. The Ring really is it’s own character and it influences him and it starts to deteriorate Frodo’s soul to the point where he is just a shadow of his former self by the end of it." "I think in some ways Frodo's quite similar to me. Hobbits in general have a real love for life and a passion for friendship and food and drink, the simple pleasures of life. Those things I totally relate to. And Frodo's got a sort of quietness about him. In some ways he's kind of internal in the sense that he thinks quite a lot and, unlike other hobbits, he's really kind of curious about the outside world and about adventures and travel and other peoples and places. I could relate to that as well. It's interesting, after you're a character for that length of time, the character bleeds into you and you bleed into the character and it's difficult to tell really how that occurs and what part of you the character contains and so on and so forth."

Elijah Wood has the ring. There were other rings, used for different shots, but he has the ring he wore: the ring that was the ring. Jackson gave it to him in a wooden box as he left New Zealand at the end of filming. "It is the one ring," he says, "which is a pretty great thing to have."

He keeps the ring in his office. It's put away, out of sight. I ask Wood whether he often takes it out and fondles it. "No," he says. "I haven't taken it out in quite some time. I'd rather just keep it hidden away for now."

He has the ring. He mentions that he also wants the sword, but they still need that for pickup shots. Elijah Wood is talented and successful and desired and strangely secret and smart and self-possessed. He has the ring, and now he wants the sword. That's how it starts. Wood may handle it all better than most, whatever his buried weirdnesses, but there will be plenty to handle nonetheless. He will get his sword, of course, and he will keep the ring, which in fact is nothing sinister or malevolent, just a gold band from a beloved movie. And then, because this is how we are, he will want something else.
