"Don't you know my name yet? That's the only answer. Tell me, who are you alone, yourself and nameless? But you are young and I am old. Eldest, that's what I am. Mark my words, my friends: Tom was here before the river and the trees; Tom remembers the first raindrop and the first acorn. He made paths before the Big People, and saw the little People arriving. He was here before the Kings and the graves and the Barrow-wights. When the Elves passed westward, Tom was here already, before the seas were bent. He knew the dark under the stars when it was fearless - before the Dark Lord came from Outside."

Character Bio:
| Prince Legolas is son of King Thrandull of the
Woodland Realm and of the Elven race. As an Elf he is an immortal
of 2,931 years of age, he knows of Strider and his true identity.
Like with many elves he has a distrust of Dwarves (And likewise dwarves
of elves). Ironically it is with Gimli the Dwarf that he forms the
closest friendship. As an Elf he has the preternatural ability to
move more lightly across the ground and able to run swiftly and effortlessly
across the roughest terrain. As a forest Elf he has the special ability
to scan any environment and see with greater clarity and distance
and detect even the smallest detail. Legolas is a superb and deadly
shot with an Elven longbow. He is sent to Rivendell to represent all
Woodland elves and is chosen to be among the 'Fellowship'. |
Actor Bio:
| He was born in 1977
Canterbury, Kent. Orlando Bloom's plans of becoming an actor developed
quite early, when he realized that "Superman" Christopher
Reeve was an actor. At age 16 he joined th National Youth Theater,
getting himself a scholarship to train with the British American Drama
Academy. And then joined the London's Guildhall School of Music and
Drama. In 1993, he moved to London to improve his career, doing bit
parts in TV series like "Casualty" or "London's Burning".
His first memorable appearance, a cameo in the critically acclaimed
movie Wilde (1997), earned him - only 20 years old by that time -
various film offers, which he all turned down in favor to play theater
for about three years. On stage, he appeared in plays like "The
Seagull", "Twelfth Night", and "Trojan Women".
Peter Jackson then "discovered" the classically handsome
Bloom for his much hyped Lord Of The Rings (2001) trilogy in 1999.
After doing these three movies with Jackson, he's working with Ridley
Scott on Black Hawk Down (2002), and with Mark Mylod on Chequered
Past (2002). |
Actor Commentary:
| "Legolas is a
very interesting guy. The Elves were created by Tolkien to be the
magical and mystical race, capable of almost anything in terms of
their abilities. They have super human strength, their reflex speed
is incredible, their sensory awareness is amazing and they are immortal;
they're ageless. For all intents and purposes, Legolas has all these
special qualities: He's a warrior, he's an archer and he becomes the
eyes and ears of the Fellowship really. If there's danger around,
Legolas is the first to be aware of it to let Aragorn know or the
Fellowship know. He comes in half-way through the movie and offers
his bow at Rivendell to Frodo for his quest so he's quite a cool little
dude, really." |
