Almost it seemed that the words took shape, and visions of far lands and bright things that [Frodo] had never yet imagined opened out before him; and the firelit hall became like a golden mist above the seas of foam that sighed upon the margins of the world. Then the enchantment became more and more dreamlike, until he felt that an endless river of swelling gold and silver was flowing over him, too multitudinous for its pattern to be comprehended; it became part of the throbbing air about him, and it drenched and drowned him. Swiftly he sank under its shining weight into a deep realm of sleep.

Character Bio:
| He was born in 2982 to Saradoc Brandybuck and
Esmerelda Took of the Hobbit race. Merry comes from one of the Shire's
most prominent and well to do families. He is second cousin to Frodo
and cousin to his best friend Pippin. Merry is cheerful, well liked
and in the prime of his life. He along with Pippin are known for their
practical jokes and misadventures. But like most hobbits he lives
a mostly sedentary life though he has a secret passion for adventure.
He has no idea what kind of experience lies before him. Being inseparable
he is more than willing to go with his friend Pippin as a member of
the fellowship. He and Pippin are truly the 'wild cards' of the Fellowship
and add spice and humor to the journey. |
Actor Bio:
| He was born on Dec
8 1976 in Berlin, Germany. Best known for the British television drama
Hetty Wainthrop Investigates. He was studying English Literature,
Drama and Geography at Sixth Form College when he was offered the
co-starring role in drama, which ran for four seasons. His other television
credits include This is Personal -- The Hunt for the Yorkshire Ripper
and a leading role in Monsignoir Renard, a series starring John Thaw.
On the stage, Monaghan has performed in the world premiere U.K. production
of The Resurrectionists, Whale and Annie and Fanny from Bolton to
Rome. Since watching Star Wars when he was six years old, Dominic
has been consumed by films. His other obsessions include writing,
music, fashion, playing/watching soccer and surfing. Utilizing his
writing skills, he and LOTR co-star Billy Boyd are collaborating on
a script. Born and raised in Berlin, Monaghan and his family moved
to England when he was twelve. In addition to speaking fluent German,
he has a knack at impersonations and accents. He frequently returns
to his hometown of Manchester, England to see his family and to be
closer to the Manchester United Football Club. |
Actor Commentary:
| "He is very sharp-witted
and he is very funny and clever. With Pippin being his partner in
crime Merry tends to be the person who suggests things and gets Pippin
into trouble then has to pull him out at the last minute. These are
the things that he takes with him and also as he goes through these
incredible situations of war and tragedy he grows as a person and
becomes more responsible and gets older. I think what I tried as hard
as I could to do was give him a real sense of being a Hobbit which
is different than a human. Hobbits show their emotions very easily." |
Filmography:
"This Is Personal:
The Hunt for the Yorkshire Ripper" (2000)
Monsignor Renard (1999) .... Etienne
Hostile Waters (1997) (TV) .... Sasha
