Character Bio:
| He was born in 2990 to parents Paladin Took
and Eglantine Banks. He is cousin to his friend Frodo and half cousin
to his life long friend Merry, the two are inseparable. Pippin has
never been outside the Shire though the Took family is known for being
adventurous, likely to fly off the wall and do things 'unhobbit-like'.
Merry and Pippin are known as a menace to their fellow hobbits for
their endless pranks and high spirits. But in truth it's Merry who
is at fault. Pippin is naive and sweet natured and follows his friend
Merry without question. It is Pippin who helps Frodo in his initial
flight from the Shire and is set on being part of the 'Fellowship'.
He gets his wish and of all the hobbits in the fellowship he is the
youngest. At first Frodo is not to happy with having Pippin on the
journey because he is young and immature but during the journey, inspite
of many mistakes, he grows and matures greatly. |

Actor Commentary:
| "In the start
of the first book, Tolkien mentions some things 'concerning Hobbits'
for people who hadn't read the Hobbit. I've read the Hobbit and I
understand why they're different from human beings, but then reading
those three pages is such an insight. Because they're closer to humans
than dwarves or elves are. He says that. They're very childlike and
very emotional - but they can switch that off. I wanted to bring that
into what the hobbits are doing. I wanted to show that things touch
them on a very deep level, but that they can let that go." |
