The Road goes ever on and on
Out from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
Let others follow it who can!
Let them a journey new begin,
But I at last with weary feet
Will turn towards the lighted inn,
My evening-rest and sleep to meet.

Character Bio:
Like Gandalf, Saruman is the Chief of the 'ISTARI',
a brotherhood of wizards sent to Middle Earth by Valar from the Undying
Lands into the mortal world in the form of a man. With the purpose
to guide the free people of Middle Earth in their fight against the
growing evil of the Dark Lord, Sauron. His white color denotes his
high status among the brotherhood.
Unfortunately Saruman has held
a secret desires for power and glory. He desired to have the 'One
Ring', and has spent many years building armies, in preparation for
war. Saruman despises Gandalf since he knows where the 'one ring'
is hidden (in the possession of Bilbo Baggins) but Saruman could never
get him to follow in his evil plots for conquest. His chief power
is his voice, to an unaware listener, it sounded sweeter than elvish
singing, and he could persuade nearly anyone to do his bidding...
Saruman was the chief Maia dispatched to Middle-Earth by the Valar to combat the evils of Morgoth and his servants. The Edain called him Curunir, and he was the head of the White Council, the collective group of wizards who each had a specialty in which they were well trained. On Middle-Earth, Saruman appeared as an old man, a great and powerful wizard who was wise and strong in sorcery.
Yet Saruman's heart was corrupted by the allure of the One Ring, and he sought and desired it for himself. He captured Gandalf the Grey in the high tower of Orthanc, revealing his mind and intent for the Ring. It was later discovered that he was under the influence of Sauron, who had seduced Saruman through his illicit use of the Palantir, a seeing stone of great power and peril.
Saruman worked great evil in his quest for the Ring, including the destruction of the Forest of Fangorn and the breeding of a horrible race of half-men, half-orc. His evils are revenged by the Ents of Fangorn who destroy his tiny kingdom.
After the destruction of the Ring, Saruman was ejected from the Council of wizards, and he and his servant Grima Wormtongue wandered to the Shire where they attempted to destroy the Shire through Industrialization. He was in the end destroyed by Grima Wormtongue, who himself was killed by archers.

Actor Bio:
| He was born in Belgravia,
London on 27th May 1922. Lee was educated at Summer Fields preparatory
school, took a scholarship at Eton College and Wellington College
where he was a classical scholar in Greek and Latin. During five years
of World War II he served in the Royal Air Force and Special Forces
in 1946. He entered the film industry in 1947 and was for a time under
contract to the Rank Organization. He has appeared in the theater
and in operatic performances and has recorded for radio world-wide.
This gaunt, handsome, deep-voiced actor has become one of the icons
of the horror film industry. With his imposing presence he has played
many villainous roles including the Frankenstein Monster, Dracula
and Fu Manchu. His most famous role is the blood-thirsty Count Dracula
opposite Peter Cushing's Professor Van Helsing in the Hammer horror
films. He has rarely varied his approach to his roles. He portrays
characters who are intelligent, unsympathetic, aggressive, humorless,
ruthless and totally evil. |
Actor Commentary:
| "He is the most
brilliant, the most powerful, the most accomplished of the wizards.
And he becomes corrupted by his lust for power." |
