I first discovered J.R.R. Tolkien's works in the sixth grade. I was banned
from P.E. class and forced to write a one page report each day for the
remainder of the school year on anything I could find within the school
library. Being that I had always been an avid fan of fantasy and mythology,
hooked on games such as Dungeons & Dragons, The Ultima Series and
The Bards Tale , I began to craft all of my stories with this type of subject matter.
I had written quite a bit of stories on castles, medieval weaponry, greek gods,
dragons, etc. before stumbling upon The Hobbit nestled in one of the dusty
shelves.
This book was a perfect fit for my interests and I was instantly intrigued by
the characters and story I was now reading. Needless to say I was hooked,
but I wouldn't actually finish the Lord of the Rings trilogy till my mid-20s. I had
always read up to The Two Towers before my time was overcome by something
else. On my honeymoon in Jamaica I started to read Fellowship of the Ring
again while sipping banana daiquiries. My wife was sunbathing and I was lost in
the Barrow Downs with Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin. I do recall the Barrow Downs
being quite a different picture in my mind then the one I got when I looked up
from the book and entered reality once again!
On a different note, I've been studying computer systems and software
avidly since early childhood and have been a hardcore console/computer
gamer since 1982. I took up an interest in computer graphics with
Deluxe Paint 2 in the late 80's and have been working with web
related technologies since late 1994. I am currently an independent Web Developer still in pursuit of
some of my dreams, as a few of them have already been fulfilled.
